3rd Physics Industry Recruitment and Placement Fair

The fair was attended by 30 exhibitors and 600 undergraduate and postgraduate physicists from 12 regional universities plus the Open University.  Students also attended sector specific panel discussions, talks, workshops and CV clinics.

On November 19th, at the Ron Cooke Hub, the WRIPA project was officially opened by York’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Koen Lamberts.  The event consisted of a Physics Industry Recruitment and Placement Fair and was attended by 17 exhibitors from the aviation, engineering and consultancy sectors and over 160 physics students.  The feedback from the exhibitors was very positive in terms of the quality of the students that attended and their intention to organise future activities with WRIPA.

After the fair there were a number of presentations from Dr David Sweeney, Director of Research, Education and Knowledge Exchange, HEFEC; Prof. Peter Main, Institute of Physics, Prof. Thomas Krauss, WRIPA lead academic and Industry talks by Kromek and York masters students who are currently working on an industrial project with Dyson.  These talks provided context to the WRIPA project around the themes of graduate employability and work-based skills training; potential career paths for graduate physicists; physics and innovation and the benefits of industrial placements during the degree programme.  The talks can be accessed at the WRIPA youtube channel
